General:

How do I request a speaker for my group?

SIFAT staff regularly speaks to civic clubs, church groups and churches. We will be happy to schedule a staff member for your group! Contact Haley Lewis, lewish@sifat.org, to book a speaker.

How do you pronounce 'SIFAT'?

'SEE - FAT' - just like the letter 'C' and the word 'Fat', with the accent on the 'C'.

Co-founder Ken Corson often jokes that sometimes people confuse SIFAT with some sort of weight loss program!

What does the acronym "SIFAT" mean?

SIFAT stands for Servants in Faith and Technology. SIFAT has also been known as the Southern Institute for Appropriate Technology, which is still our legal name.

You can also check our staff contact page where the persons responsible for each area are listed with their email address.

Donations/Giving:

1. Is my gift tax-deductible?

Yes. SIFAT is a 501(c)(3) organization, registered with the IRS to receive tax-deductible donations. Each month you contribute, you will receive a receipt for tax purposes.

2. May I specify how my gift is used?

Yes, you may specify that you are contributing to a specific project or program that SIFAT supports. To make sure you are correctly designating a project, please contact Claude Hurtt, hurttc@sifat.org. If gifts are not marked specifically for a project or a project’s needs have been met, your gift will go to where it is most needed.

3. Why are unrestricted gifts so important?

These gifts give SIFAT the ability to use resources where needs are greatest. Unrestricted giving allows for flexibility to meet those needs. All of your gifts are important to us and used to help share God’s love in practical ways.

4. How do I make a matching gift?

Many employers match the gifts their employees make to charitable organizations, doubling your gift or more. Check with your company human resources office to see if they match your gift and encourage them to do so.

SIFAT has a matching gift trust. Gifts to this trust are automatically matched.

Contact Marie Lanier, lanierm@sifat.org, if more information is needed.

5. Can I make my gift with a credit card?

Yes. To easily donate online with a credit card click here:

6. What’s the SHARE program?

The SHARE program is a commitment to support SIFAT with a monthly gift. You choose a commitment level and time period.

As a SHAREholder you receive our quarterly publication and are invited to visit SIFAT’s campus for our SHAREholder Celebration.

For more information or to become a SHAREholder, contact Marie Lanier, lanierm@sifat.org or click for more.

7. Can monthly gifts be automatically made from a bank account?

Yes! If you would like SIFAT to automatically withdraw a monthly contribution from your account, submit the Convenient Contributor Form. By using an automatic withdrawal, you remember to contribute monthly and don’t have to find a stamp and envelope for postage! If you have questions, please contact Claude Hurtt, hurttc@sifat.org

8. Where should I mail a check gift?

Mail your contribution, payable to SIFAT, to our international office at the address below.

Alabama Campus:

Where is Lineville, Ala.?

We are in east central Alabama, near Lake Wedowee, 1/2 hour south of I-20 and west of US 431.
Click here for a Google map and directions.
(Note: we are about a mile further south than the indicator on the map.)

Is there anything nearby to do?

  • Flat Rock is 10 minutes away and gives visitors a relaxing place to swim and cookout during the summer.
  • Mt. Cheaha State Park (the highest point in Alabama) is about 30 minutes away and allows guests a place to hike and an unbelievable view during any season.
  • Lake Wedowee is nearby, if you have watercraft to launch and spend a day on the water. You can also just spend the day fishing – it’s some of the best in Alabama!
  • If you’re interested in shopping, many flea markets and antique stores are located throughout Clay and Randolph counties.

Why are you located in rural Randolph County, Ala.?

Co-founder Sarah Corson grew up in nearby Wedowee. When she and husband Ken returned from the mission field, their home church had built a home here for their family. As SIFAT began, the investors and founders looked for a home. SIFAT acquired 176 acres at an affordable price. The rest, they say, is history. Read more on our "Who are we?" page.

Can my church/business/family rent facilities for retreats?

Yes, we have facilities that can be used for a small fee. Click for photos, descriptions, contacts and prices for our facilities.

I know you have summer camps for youth and children, but are there other events going on throughout the year?

Yes, you can visit SIFAT with a group for a CARES event, take a tour or come to a conference. Our training Practicum will be held in the fall this year on our campus. Please check this site regularly for upcoming events!
