Bolivia Project Information

 

 

"Two Trees," our agricultural center outside of town, continues to be developed for training and planting of crops to sustain the food requirements of the boarding home.

Teams will work on constructing a chicken house and goat pen to help provide better nutrition for the staff and students, as well as teach the students animal husbandry.

IXIAMAS--Boarding Home / Training Center

Rachel Parsons, the boarding home (internado) administrator, is excited about new opportunities for the borading home this year. After school tutoring will be offered for both students in the internado and the town. Classroom areas are needed, as well as an expanded computer lab.

Teams will continue helping with construction on the new girls' dorm and training facility on the internado site. The old girls' area will be renovated to make classroom areas.

Location Adjacent to Madidi National Park rain forest; northwestern Bolivia
Lodging At nearby hotel with private baths & showers. Electricity is available but limited (7:30 p.m. - 11:30 p.m.).
Meals All meals eaten at a local restaurant or at the internado
Transportation Arrive & depart by small plane from LaPaz to Rurrenabaque, van to Ixiamas or by bus from La Paz to Ixiamas
Project Cost $2,500 or $100 per person, whichever is greater or for medical teams:
$125 per person for medical training fund
Length of Trip 10 days--March to October
Cost Per Person $825 in-country expenses plus r/t airfare. Additional Days @ $50/day
Visa At the airport, you will need to pay $135 per person for a-five year visa.

BOLIVIA - QUESIMPUCO--Boarding Home / Health Center

Medical and dental outpost teams will continue to serve the outlying villages surrounding Quesimpuco. Health training to promoters and communities is needed. Construction teams are needed for repairs to our existing school, hospital and boarding home. Bridge building teams will build a walk bridge across the river in the valley below Quesimpuco.

Location 13,000 feet altitude of the Andes Mts; south central Bolivia
Lodging In health center housing facility in dormitory style bunkrooms with restroom & shower facilities. Electricity available.
Meals Cooked & served from the small kitchen of health center.
Transportation 4 x 4 jeeps for 15-hour trip directly to & from LaPaz
Project Cost $2,500 or $100 per person, whichever is greater or for medical teams:
$125 per person for medical training fund
Length of Trip 11 days--March to October
Cost Per Person $825 per person in-country expenses plus r/t airfare. Additional days @ $50/day.

Pricing Information In-country expenses include all meals, lodging, transportation, water, UMVIM emergency travel and medical insurance, airport exit tax and team leader cross cultural orientation and manuals. Pricing subject to change in 2011.

Visas: Visas are required to enter Bolivia. At the airport, you will need to pay $135 per person for a five-year visa.

Free Day: One day devoted to visiting one or more interesting and historical sites in the country of Bolivia (a trip into the rain forest, shopping or visiting museums in downtown LaPaz). There is an additional cost for this free day activity.

Medical teams are scheduled with approval of SIFAT International Health Director.
