SHORT TERM MISSIONS IN ECUADOR

ATACUCHO / QUITO

Goal: In 2000, teams "broke the ground" and began construction of Atacucho Daycare Facility #2, Mama Yoli's House. This facility is being constructed in memory of Yolanda Cassidy from Woodbine UMC in Pace, FL. Yolanda, originally from Columbia, served as a team member and translator for two years to assist in the construction of "Semillitas de Dios" daycare facility in Atacucho, which officially opened in September, 2004. Yolanda was tragically killed only weeks after returning home from her mission trip that year. Woodbine UMC, in cooperation with SIFAT, has established the "Yoli Cassidy Memorial Fund" for the purpose of making this newest daycare facility a reality in her memory.

In 2007, teams will begin construction on a church, located on the same property as Mama Yoli's House. Teams will dig foundation holes and erect columns for the first floor of the church, which will serve not only as a place of worship, but also as a training and community center for that neightborhood (barrio) in Atacucho.
