SHORT TERM MISSIONS IN BOLIVIA

 

IXIAMAS--Boarding Home / Training Center

Rachel Parsons, the boarding home director, is expecting many additional children in the boarding home (internado) the next school year. This will allow us to serve 65 children from remote jungle communities. Construction will continue on the new training/hospitality facility on the internado site. "Two Trees," our agricultural center outside of town, continues to be developed for training and planting of crops to sustain the food requirements of the boarding home. Teams will also help with planting chocolate trees which will be sold as a cash crop to help with the yearly expenses of running the internado.

Location Adjacent to Madidi National Park rain forest; north western Bolivia
Lodging At nearby hotel with private baths & showers. Electricity is available but limited (10am to 2pm. and 6pm to midnight).
Meals All meals eaten at a local restaurant or at the internado
Transportation Arrive & depart by small plane from LaPaz to Rurrenabaque, van to Ixiamas
Project Cost $2,500 - $3,000 or $100 per person, whichever is greater
Length of Trip 10 days--March to October
Cost Per Person $675 in country expenses plus r/t airfare and $2500 - $3000 team construction funds or $100 per person (whichever is greater). Additional Days @ $50/day

 

QUESIMPUCO--Boarding Home / Health Center

Medical and dental outpost teams will continue to serve the outlying villages surrounding Quesimpuco. Health training to promoters and communities is needed. Final construction on health center housing facility and repairs to existing school, hospital and bording home.

Location 13,000 feet altitude of the Andes Mts; south central Bolivia
Lodging In health center housing facility in dormitory style bunkrooms with restroom & showers available. Electricity available.
Meals Cooked & served from the small kitchen of health center.
Transportation 4 x 4 jeeps for 14 hour trip directly to & from LaPaz
Project Cost $2,500 - $3,000 or $100 per person, whichever is greater
Length of Trip 11 days--March to October
Cost Per Person $747 per person in country expenses plus airfare & $2500 - $3000 team construction or health training funds OR $100 per person (whichever is greater). Additional days @ $50/day

Pricing Information In-country expenses include all meals, lodging, transportation, water, UMVIM emergency travel and medical insurance, airport exit tax, and team leader cross cultural orientation & manual. Pricing subject to change in year 2008. One day devoted to visiting one or more interesting & historical sites in the country of Bolivia (a trip into the rain forest, shopping & visiting museums in downtown LaPaz). Medical teams are scheduled with approval of SIFAT International Health Director.
